Dr. Brewers Notes on the Kuo Chao Shih Case History

Dr. Brewer’s Notes

on the Kuo Chao Shih Case History

  1. IntraUterine Growth Retardation (IUGR), Small for Gestational Age (SGA), Metabolic ToxemiaAs-defined-by-the-1997-Merriam-Webster-M... of Late Pregnancy (MTLPMetabolic-Toxemia-of-Late-Pregnancy---th...), Abruptio Placentae and Low Birth Weight (LBW), are not causally related to parity [number of previous births], age, class, race, DNA, heredity.
  2. The “mysterious” IUGR/SGA (intrauterine growth retardation/small for gestational age) and “mysterious” MTLP (metabolic toxemia of late pregnancy) are the same food deficiency disease.
  3. This is MTLP in it’s “non-hypertensive phase.” [no protein in the urine, blood pressure normal, but mother is still toxemic] “Hypertension is a red herring diagnosed across the EclampsiaA-convulsive-state:-an-attack-of-convuls... Syndrome.” (G.W. Theobold, M.D., 1954)
  4. This is an “eclamptogenic diet.” (R.A. Ross, M.D., North Carolina, 1930s to 1950s) i.e., it will cause eclampsia (toxemia)
  5. This is a protective diet for mother and twin fetuses (as show by E.V. McCollum, Edward Mellanby, Tompkins, Burke, Ebbs, Luikart, Whitacre). Prof. Maxwell’s meals protected Kuo Chao Shih and her twins from coma, convulsions, hypovolemic shock, ruptured liver, brain hemorrhage, death.
  6. This is the tocolytic chemical idea. Give milk and pounded spinach the credit, not bromide! At Harvard, M.B. Strauss, M.D. (1930s) and I at the University of Miami, Florida (1958-62), made the same clinical observations when we began to feed, salt, water — not drug, not de-salt, not starve, not dehydrate — malnourished, toxemic women.
  7. Today’s diets, drugs and c. section would have killed Kuo Chao Shih and her twins.
  8. Eight pounds of babies…and they could have been bigger! (4 lbs. each - 3 lbs. 15 oz. and 4 lbs. 1 oz.)
